The Dream

The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe was founded in 1999, as not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and for many years performed in a variety of spaces available, but we dreamed of having a theatre of our own. In 2010 we rented a large warehouse building that was temporarily transformed into our theatre. Three years later, WBTT’s dream of a permanent home came true when we were able to buy that warehouse building as well as the entire 2½-acre site it sat on containing the historic Binz building and associated parking areas. The days of itinerancy were over.

Since then, we have grown exponentially—more shows, more sold-out performances, and many more education outreach programs. However, WBTT is fast reaching the limitations of our current facilities.

Now it’s time to dream again—to turn the site into a cohesive, state-of-the-art theatre arts center that supports first-class artistic productions and education programs.

Already, many donors have stepped forward to help keep the dream alive. We hope you will join these generous supporters by donating now to WBTT’s Heart & Soul Campaign. Call Julie Leach, 941.366.1505, Ext. 103.
