LATERRY BUTLER, B.A., CAGO has toured both nationally and internationally with Ain’t Misbehavin’. Other credits include The Wiz, Showboat, West Side Story, Dreamgirls, Bubbling Brown Sugar, Purlie, Eubie, All Night Strut, Five Guys Named Moe and the New York world premiere of Hi-Hat Hattie. He has done post-graduate studies at both Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music in NYC and has earned the Colleague Certification from the American Guild of Organists. Butler is the recipient of numerous awards, including Sarasota Magazine’s Best Musical Direction Award in 2004. His numerous noteworthy appearances include: accompanist for Tramaine Hawkins in Kingston, Jamaica; choir director for the Sarah Vaughn Memorial, videotaped at the Apollo Theater; and pianist/keyboardist for A Holiday Festival at Lincoln Center, N.Y.C. He musically directed Stage Aurora Theater’s production of Crowns in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Mahaffey Theater Foundation’s production of Black Nativity at the Palladium. He is Choir Director/Organist at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Sarasota. He continues to be in demand as a keyboard accompanist regionally and locally for community arts groups such as the Alumni Singers of St. Petersburg and area high school music programs that seek someone who can both sight-read and improvise on the spot. He and his wife, Tammy Elaine, are thankful for the ability to prosper locally and regionally in the performing and visual arts and as public school teachers as well as working with the wonderful talents here at WBTT.
