Former WBTT CEO honored for past, ongoing contributions to arts organization

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe has named its former CEO, Christine Jennings, as its first “Ambassador.” The honorary title recognizes her transformational contributions to the organization’s current fiscal health and artistic excellence.  In this role, she will occasionally speak in the community about the Troupe, and will continue her efforts to engage new patrons and supporters for the Troupe.

“Christine has been a devoted friend to WBTT and we would not be in the position we are in today without her vision, leadership and determination,” said Julie Leach, executive director of WBTT. “While she may not be involved with our day-to-day operations anymore, we wanted to create a special role which utilizes her unique skills, insight and community contacts, as well as honor her many contributions to the Troupe. We are excited to name Christine as our first Ambassador, and look forward to benefiting from her continued friendship and support.”

Jennings was asked to help manage the operations of the Troupe by Trustee Howard E. Millman in 2009, so that founder and artistic director Nate Jacobs would be able to focus his energies on artistic endeavors. Jennings agreed and enlisted friends and colleagues to help her. Christine established a debt-free financial climate, built a diverse and committed board of trustees, found a permanent home for the professional productions and raised the funds to purchase that property, which has become an arts center that serves culturally diverse casts, crews and audiences.

“Christine’s five years with us were an amazing gift and we will always be indebted to her for helping to get us where we are today,” said Jacobs. “On behalf of the Troupe, we thank her from the bottom of our collective hearts. While we miss having her around on a regular basis, she continues to support the Troupe and bring new friends to us. We are thrilled that she has agreed to be our first “Ambassador.”
