SARASOTA, FL – After its first round of adult training classes in late summer/early fall of 2023, WBTT is thrilled to offer three adult education opportunities in early 2024: Adult Acting, African Dance, and Improv Adventures.

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe is gearing up for the holidays, ready to celebrate the season with its holiday production and Christmas card to the community, “Joyful! Joyful!” Theater fans of all ages and religious backgrounds are invited to celebrate the season with high-spirited, uplifting songs as only WBTT’s singers, dancers and musicians can perform them. The show runs from November 29-December 30, 2023.

Tony Award-winning musical is a coming-of-age story set in the tropics, featuring Afro-Caribbean rhythms and instruments

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe is thrilled to open its 24th season with “Once On This Island.” Set on a verdant Caribbean island, this Tony Award-winning musical tells the coming-of-age story of a peasant girl searching for love and her place in the world, while dealing with complicated social issues of race, class and affairs of the heart.

Community members are invited to participate in new class offerings designed for learning and fun this fall

SARASOTA, FL – For the eighth summer, aspiring actors, dancers and singers ages 13-18 are taking the stage with Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe. WBTT is proud to present "Stage of Discovery," an intensive, five-week summer musical theatre program that is offered at no cost to participants; the program will culminate with two public performances of “FAME The Musical” in mid-July.

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) is pleased to present the tenth year of its annual Young Artist Program, through which Troupe members can showcase their talents with self-produced, one-person shows. WBTT’s second Young Artist Program showcase of the 2022-2023 season will feature frequent and popular WBTT performer Raleigh Mosely II as he presents “Titanium: A Soul Experience” on Monday, May 22.

Arts organizations to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin on the 50th anniversary of groundbreaking album 'Amazing Grace' for one night only at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and Key Chorale will honor Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” on the 50th anniversary of her groundbreaking Grammy Award-winning album, "Amazing Grace." WBTT artists Matelyn Alicia and Naärai will join Key Chorale, along with its featured soloist, Amy Connours, for "Grace: The Spirit of Aretha," an evening of soulful gospel songs and Franklin’s most famous R&B classics on May 8 at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
