Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe to make fourth appearance at international festival; will present five performances of 'Soul Man'

SARASOTA, FL – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) has been recognized with its fourth invitation to perform during the National Black Theatre Festival, which takes place July 29 - August 3 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Local teens to enjoy free summer musical theater program, with professional training in acting, singing and dancing

SARASOTA, FL – For the fourth summer, actors, dancers and singers ages 13-18 are taking the stage with Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT). From June 10 through July 14, WBTT is presenting "Stage of Discovery," an intensive summer musical theater program that is offered at no cost to participants.

Readings to take place internationally as part of Project1VOICE effort in mid-June

SARASOTA, FL – On June 17, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) will take part in Project1VOICE/1PLAY/1DAY, an international play reading effort presented in association with 45 theater companies and other diverse institutions to celebrate African-American theater. This year, Project1VOICE has selected Crumbs from the Table of Joy by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage for the readings.  

Funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to support production of Flyin’ West and related community outreach activities

SARASOTA, FL – The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe has received a $15,000 Art Works award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to help underwrite its 2020 production of Flyin’ West as well as to defray the costs of community outreach activities related to the play.

Nate Jacobs-penned musical revue celebrates the late Queen of Soul’s artistry, talent, understanding of human relationships and social consciousness

SARASOTA, FL – For its final offering of the 2018-2019 mainstage season, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will present the Nate Jacobs-penned original musical revue, Love Sung in the Key of Aretha. Jacobs also directs this show, which runs March 13 – April 28, 2019, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and weekend matinees at 2 p.m. at the Westcoast Black Theatre (1012 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota).
